Required Questions 1. The art criticism process is a process used to critique and evaluate your art or someone else's work of art. Step 1: You describe the art, you tell exactly what you see. Step 2: You analyze the art, you use the elements/principles to reflect upon the art form. Step 3: You interpret, like consider what the artist is trying to say, what caused the artist to say it, the historical meaning that surrounds the work of art, and why the work of art was created in this particular style. Step 4: You lastly evaluate the art, how successful or important is the work of art. 2. 3. Step 1 Describe: I see a picture of a male, he is upside down though, there are writing strips of paper around him, he looks like a younger boy. Step 2 Analyze: There is a lot of value around the mouth and under the eyes. I lined up the portrait onto the canvas proportionally so there would be enough space for the newspaper strips to add variety. I had to balance out the facial features with texture so there would be enough emphasis to the piece so that it would be formed like the picture. I decided not to put any color into the piece so it would have rhythm and harmony. Step 3 Interpret: I am trying to show the abstract and uniqueness of this piece because my brother (who the picture is of) has a unique and different personality just like the piece. I created it this way just because I wouldn't know how to do it with lots of color or a different medium, and I've done pieces like this before. Step 4 Evaluate: This work of art was sort of successful compared to the reference picture, but it was pretty important because I gave it to him for his birthday and he seemed pretty excited. Pick 3 Questions 1. What is art? Art isn't just a drawing or a painting, art is in our everyday world. Our world is art, art is in everything, everything is in art. By definition, ART is the expression or application of human creative skill and imagination, typically in a visual form such as painting or sculpture, producing works to be appreciated primarily for their beauty or emotional power. But art isn't just a production or a thought, its your creation, your imagination, your imagination is art. Art is beauty, it does indeed create emotion. It can be sad, fun, happy, exotic, joyful. Art has many different faces, and it just doesn't have to be a picture, ourself is a work of art. We were created by God on this earth and that is indeed art. 7. What is the point of this class? What did you get out of it? What I got out of this class was that art is not just a drawing or a painting, but that any thing can be a work of art, and that there are many different styles of art, different mediums. There's pen, pencil, colored pencil, charcoal, ink, etc. The point of this class was for me to get better at art and become more of an artist by just taking a glance and looking around to see that art is everywhere. I learned what mediums I am good at and what ones I am not as good at. I also learned that anyone can be an artist, it just all depends on perspective. 4. What are some reasons why artists make art?
Some reasons artists make art I think is to either motivate, inspire, or entertain. When an artist makes a drawing or a painting, they might try to motivate other kids or people to make art or look around them at art. They might try to inspire you by creating a work of art that moves you or makes you want to change the world with art. They might inspire you to look around at all the art around them or in their environment. They might try to entertain you by creating a unique piece or a piece that looks intriguing or interesting to you. Artists make art basically to get more artists to make art so that the world can be more beautiful with art.
