My mentor's name is Devin and she is a junior girl. Her weebly blog link is devin-apex-18.weebly.com which is where she posts her blogs. The art classes that Devin has taken are Art 1, Art 2, Art 3, and right now Art 4 or AP Art. Devin's medium she is interested in is either pen or paint, which are also my favorites. What I am looking for from this art mentor thing, is that I am able to get better at art from someone who also had to get better and that has the same interests of art as me.

I morphed a foot/leg and an alligator. I morphed these two because I wanted to do a part of the body, and I saw a hand and a tree, and I was going to do that, but then that would of been stealing. So I chose a foot and an alligator, because why not? My process with this piece was easy at first with drawing the outline of the foot and the leg, and then I made the scales, which were easy because they just random shapes that were squarish. What got hard later on, was deciding whether I should have continued the scales up the leg or just make leg hair designs like a normal leg. So, I decided to do the scales, and I then made the eye; which was a little challenging, but then I saw a picture of an alligator eye and got the hang of it. Thirdly, I made the nostrils which were not hard, and they looked like the toenails of the big toe and the pointer toe. Lastly, I had to think of a background for the alligatoe, so I just made a body of water, a river/ocean. I made streams of waves, and added lining detail to the water. What I found the most successful was the scales, the eye, and the shape of the toenails/nostrils. What I might change in the future would be the water, or the outline of the toe and foot.
There were different advantages and disadvantages to each three mediums that I have worked on. The advantages of the pen medium were the fact that it looked neat and the pen gave the drawing a good outline. The disadvantages to the pen medium were that if you made a mistake, you could not erase it. The advantages to the pencil medium were that you could erase any errors made and you could have more detail in your drawing than in pen. The disadvantages to pencil were that if you made a dark mark, it would be hard to erase. Another disadvantage was that your outline in pencil wouldn't be as neat. The advantages of the charcoal drawing were the different highlights and shading created and the background. The disadvantages the charcoal drawing has is that it smeers and it can get all over the place. Another disadvantage is that it is hard to erase if you make a mistake.
Chinese artist Wenyi who lives in Dali, Yunnan Province, China uses pieces of cardboard that he finds on the streets to use as his canvas. Wenyi draws his surroundings which is mostly trash because he lives in a poor area. He likes to draw black and white sketches, but then Wenyi also likes drawing colorful homes straight out of his hometown. "I want people to see art in our everyday life even if it's on wasted paper." Wenyi is very interesting because he just wants people to look at the world and find art in everything because there is art in everything, and he said even if it's on his cardboard canvas. Wenyi's work is inspiring to me because it is not just like ordinary art, it's his real life on the poor, rural streets. I think its cool because even though he is poor he can still do what he loves and what he is talented at doing. Wenyi's work draws me in because I like the detail that he gives to his drawings in both the colored ones and the black and white ones. The art he creates is what is right in front of him and that is what an artist should do; look at your surroundings and use that.
